Greenwich Furs: A Family Legacy

Greenwich Furs was established in 1948 by William Tsamisis in Greenwich, Connecticut. William's journey began when he immigrated alone from Montreal, Canada to the United States at the tender age of 14. Settling in New York City, he started his career in the fur trade as a Floor Boy at Day Brothers.

After serving in the US Army during World War II, where his native language of French led to him being taken off the front lines to serve as an interpreter for a general, William returned with a vision to start his own business. On the boat ride back home, symbolizing his relief and gratitude for his safe return, he threw his last quarter from his pocket at the Statue of Liberty, a gesture of his faith and commitment to make a new beginning in America. He initially started Greenwich Furs with partners, but was later joined by his wife, Stella, who came from a fur family herself; her father, George Getsos, was part of Getsos & Girschman, a renowned furrier in NYC. Together, they ran the business until 1977, building a reputation for quality and craftsmanship in the fur industry.

The business passed to their son, Nicholas Tsamisis, who took over in 1977. Having grown up around the business, Nicholas was immersed in the fur trade from a young age, gaining invaluable insights and experience. Under his stewardship, Nicholas took Greenwich Furs to new heights by expanding the product line, enhancing marketing efforts, and embracing new design trends, which significantly increased the business's reputation and client base. He maintained its standing as a respected name in the industry until he handed over the reins in 2020.

Currently, the third generation, Christopher Tsamisis, leads Greenwich Furs. Like his father and grandfather before him, Christopher was exposed to the Fur Industry at a young age, learning the intricacies of the trade, design, and customer service. Since taking over in 2020, he has continued the family's tradition of excellence, adapting to modern trends while preserving the legacy of quality and tradition established by William.

This family business has not only been a testament to the Tsamisis family's dedication to the fur trade but also illustrates a story of resilience, adaptation, and familial legacy spanning three generations.
